The new Red Star 1972 Tongji brings a fascinating piece of Chinese horological history back to the wrist. This elegant hand-wound three-hand watch combines classic vintage design with one of the most important mechanical movements ever produced in China – the legendary Tongji caliber.

This model is available with black, cream, burgundy red or blue dial.

The Heart of the Watch: The Legendary Tongji Hand-Wound Movement

Inside beats a mechanical Tongji hand-wound movement featuring:

The so-called “Tongji” movement – Chinese: 统机, meaning “unified movement” – was developed in the early 1970s as part of a large state industrial project. The goal was to create a standardized mechanical movement that could be manufactured by many Chinese watch factories.

This led to the famous “Chinese Standard Movement” – a caliber that shaped an entire era of Chinese watchmaking and today enjoys cult status among collectors worldwide.

The Tongji movement represents a time when mechanical watchmaking in China reached its peak before the rise of quartz movements brought this era to an end. Wearing this watch means wearing not only a timepiece, but also a genuine piece of horological history.

Classic Design with Authentic Vintage Character

The minimalist red dial proudly features the red Red Star logo together with the historical “1972” print – a tribute to the golden age of Chinese mechanical watches.
