Dial & Design
The golden metal dial with Chinese script features gold-colored indices and numerals, complemented by blued steel hands. At 12 o’clock, the red star adds the iconic finishing touch to this historic design.
History & Heritage
The Tianjin Watch Factory (today Seagull) was already famous in 1961 for producing the first Chinese wristwatch. In 1962, the Chinese government commissioned the factory to develop a pilot’s chronograph for the People’s Liberation Army Air Force. After extensive testing, the design was approved, and by 1963 around 1,400 pieces had been delivered.
An important detail: Seagull had acquired machinery from Venus (Switzerland) in the 1960s. As a result, the ST19 and its modern successor ST1908 are direct descendants of the legendary Venus 150 column-wheel chronograph caliber – also known as the basis of the Poljot 3017.
A Timepiece with Moonphase
The moonphase is not only one of the oldest horological complications but also a poetic one. It elegantly connects the technical-military heritage of the Seagull 1963 with the astronomical rhythm of time. This makes the Moonphase Chronograph a standout piece for both collectors and enthusiasts of classic watchmaking artistry.
The Red Star Seagull 1963 Moonphase combines history, precision and design – a chronograph with character, tradition and a touch of poetry on the wrist.
