Red Star Big Date Moonphase – Exclusive at Poljot24

A special development project with Red Star Shenzhen – featuring the high-quality Seagull ST2528 automatic movement

The new Red Star “Big Date Moonphase” is the result of a close collaboration with my long-term partners at Red Star in Shenzhen. During my visit to China in April 2025 – meeting both Red Star in Shenzhen and Seagull in Tianjin – we developed this model together. It is now available exclusively at Poljot24.

This watch is offered in two refined versions:

• Rose gold-plated stainless steel case with white dial, rose gold Breguet-style hands and indices – supplied with a brown leather strap
• Polished stainless steel case with champagne dial, blued Breguet-style hands and blued indices – supplied with a black leather strap

Both versions combine classic elegance with modern Chinese watchmaking craftsmanship — highlighted by two distinctive complications: the Big Date and the Moonphase.

Design & Functions

Big Date – perfectly legible

The Big Date display uses two separate date disks, creating a crisp and highly legible presentation. Adjustment is conveniently performed via a discreet pusher on the side of the case.

Moonphase with integrated small seconds

The beautifully crafted moonphase at the 6 o’clock position shows the current lunar cycle — one of the most charming traditional complications. A special highlight: the small seconds hand is integrated directly into the moonphase display, adding depth and sophistication to the dial.

Quick adjustments via side pushers

Each side of the case features a small, unobtrusive pusher:

• one for quick date adjustment
• one for quick moonphase adjustment

Both functions can be set precisely and comfortably.

High-quality materials

• Flat sapphire crystal – highly scratch-resistant and perfectly clear
• 20 mm lug width
• 48 mm lug-to-lug – a very wearable size for most wrists
• Premium leather straps: brown (rose gold version) or black (stainless steel version)

The Movement: Seagull ST2528

This model is powered by the Seagull ST2528, a modern automatic movement produced by the renowned Tianjin Seagull Watch Factory. During my visit in April 2025, I personally observed the impressive level of quality control, precision, and craftsmanship demonstrated by their watchmakers.

The ST2528 belongs to Seagull’s respected ST25 family, known for robust construction and versatile complications. The moonphase is not only visually captivating but also a poetic mechanical interpretation of the lunar cycle.

The fascination of the moonphase

The moonphase is one of the most elegant and romantic complications in mechanical watchmaking. It displays the current lunar phase across the 29.5-day cycle — a feature historically valued by sailors, astronomers, and timekeepers.

A mechanical moonphase requires a precisely geared mechanism that advances once every 24 hours to track the moon’s motion as accurately as possible. For many collectors, it represents a beautiful union of horology, astronomy, and classical design.
