Vostok Amphibia 1967 – 30 ATM, Sapphire

In 1967, the Chistopol Vostok Watch Factory introduced the legendary Amphibia diver’s watch, designed for depths of up to 200 meters. However, the Soviet Navy’s special forces, the Spetsnaz, soon demanded even higher performance: a watch capable of withstanding depths of 300 meters.

Under a state commission, engineers Mikhail Novikov and Vera Belova developed the Diver Wristwatch 30 (DW-30) – a timepiece that made history.

Construction & Technology

• Case: solid stainless steel with reinforced screw-down back and special crown – manufactured to GOST standards.

• Crystal: scratch-resistant sapphire for maximum clarity and durability.

• Gasket: specially developed, smooth and pressure-resistant rubber – ensuring absolute water resistance.

• Crown: screw-down, secured against accidental pulling.

• Bezel: rotating – for monitoring dive time and remaining air supply.

• Dial: clean and functional, with large white numerals on a black background and long-lasting luminous coating. Red seconds hand for optimal legibility.

• Movement: modern Vostok automatic caliber 2415.01

Proven in Harsh Conditions

Before entering serial production, the watch was tested during a military exercise in the North Sea, including the simulation of a submarine rescue at depths exceeding 100 meters.

From 1971, the Diver Wristwatch 30 officially became part of the Soviet Navy’s standard equipment and was also used by special forces such as the Naval Spetsnaz (“Russian combat frogmen”). Some highly distinguished naval officers were even awarded engraved versions in recognition of their service.

Today

Production continued into the 1980s and likely ended with the collapse of the Soviet Union. Original examples are now extremely rare and highly sought after by collectors.
