The Heart of the Watch: Seagull ST19 Movement

The mechanical ST19 column wheel chronograph is based on the legendary Swiss Venus 3017 movement. In the 1960s, Seagull acquired the original production equipment – resulting in a technically fascinating movement with vintage charm and modern reliability.

A Watch with History

This chronograph’s roots trace back to 1963, when the Tianjin Watch Factory – now Seagull – was commissioned to build the first Chinese pilot chronograph for the Air Force. The legendary "1963" series was born.

My personal connection to this model began over 12 years ago, when a traveling customer from China visited my watch business in Munich wearing the 38mm version (ref. 7001). I was instantly fascinated – and have been importing these rare timepieces directly from China ever since. Due to formalities and limited availability, this is no easy task – but absolutely worth it.
