Explanation of "Regulator"
Precision regulators with compensated pendulum were used as timing standards for scientific purposes and for the official timing until the late 1960s and were called regulators. Very good regulators had a time deviation by less than one second a month. The regulators were used in the scientific field, the hands were aranged - to achieve precise readability - on different axes of the dial. The dial was dominated by the only major minute hand on the central axis, while the hour and second hands normally were each decentralized above and below in smaller sub-dials.
Wristwatches nowadays, called regulators, have this typical regulator dial with separate positionings of hour and minute hands.
